REFLECTIONS. In the mornings when the sun is bright and the wind is still I can look across the little lake outside our home and in the water is reflected the homes and landscape across the lake from us. It is a very pleasant sight. No change is needed. But when I make my way to the bathroom in the morning and look in the mirror, no matter the conditions outside my home, I immediately realize some changes are needed in what is reflected in the mirror. Sometimes I do the minimum required and save the rest for another day. Think with me for a moment about reflections as noted in God’s Word. “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a

REMEMBER AND CONSIDER! Do you remember the very first spiritual leaders in your Christian life and also the ones who have led you through the years? We should because God told us to. He said, “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith,” (Hebrews 13:7 NIV). In the first steps in my Christian life, which began when I was age twenty-three, God gave my wife and me very godly Pastors who were great bible expositors. And the people who surrounded us in church were very godly people. When God called my wife and me into His ministry He gave us very godly teachers who knew their bible well and taught us well. And now aft

THE RACE OF OUR LIFE IS ON. And we should be winners. The grandstands of heaven are full of celebrity fans cheering us on. But to be winners we must prepare for the race of our life. Everything that will slow us down or stop us from moving forward must be cast aside. We can’t wear it or carry it. It must be cast off. On top of that this is a long race and we must develop perseverance to be winners. The writer of the book of Hebrews describes the race like this: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jes

FAITH: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see,” (Hebrews 11:1 NIV). Bakers Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology gives this basic definition of Faith: Faith is, “Belief, trust, and loyalty to a person or thing.” The writer of Hebrews illustrates more than defines what faith is as you can tell by reading chapter 11. But our belief, trust and loyalty is in God the Father, Jesus the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. And those things; belief, trust and loyalty cause us to have complete confidence in what we hope for. One source defines hope as, “To trust in, wait for, look for, or desire something or someone; or to expect something beneficial in the

WE ARE GOING TO DIE! God’s Word says, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation,” (Hebrews 9:27-28 NKJV). Are there any exceptions to physical death? Well, Enoch & Elijah as recorded in the Old Testament Scriptures escaped in dramatic ways. And the Christians alive at the Rapture will escape physical death. They will be taken up to heaven alive in a very dramatic event. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Will we be part of that event? Hopefully, but if not we are going to die physically. And God knows our date with death wh

HOW IS YOUR HEARING? HOW IS YOUR DIET? The writer to the book of Hebrews was writing to a very tough audience. He wanted to share many things with them about the priestly ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ but they had a problem. They were “dull of hearing.” They had stopped trying to understand the more mature teachings of the Christian life. In fact the writer says they had been saved long enough to be teachers of the Word but they still needed someone to teach them the very basics of the Christian faith. He wrote it this way: “We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers
