HOLD FAST YOUR PROFESSION! The writer of the book of Hebrews reminds his readers of the past failures of many people professing to be God followers. He also reviews the fact of how God’s word has worked in their hearts and how God knows all about each person and will judge each person. NOW he encourages these people concerning God’s provision for them and us. In God’s provision for us He has given us “a great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God” (Hebrews 4:14 KJV). Because of God’s provision of His Son we should be encouraged to be faithful to God and hold fast the new life we have in Christ. We as humans and sinners need someone to feel as we feel and someone

GOD’S S WORD A SPIRITUAL SWORD! “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account,” (Hebrews 4:12-13 NKJV). God is a living God so whatever word He utters is a living word that will last forever and be forever true. We are told that over and over in God’s Word, the bible, in verses such as “heaven & earth will pass away but my words shall not pass away,” (Matthew 24:35KJV). And we should not for

A GREAT QUESTION! Some questions in life are just annoying. Some are unnecessary. Some are really important like, “If I drink this will it really kill me?” The answer to some questions is self-evident. In the bible book of Hebrews we have a really great and important question. “How shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will,” (Hebrews 2:3-4 NIV). The answer to that question should be self-evident. If we ignore God’s message of salvation delivered to us by

HISTORY IS IMPORTANT AS IT HAPPENED; NOT AS SOME WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT REVISED TODAY! History helps us to see where we came from and where we are headed. It is interesting to note that God has been speaking to the human race since the Garden of Eden. We have a history of God speaking to us. The Jewish writer of the book of Hebrews expressed it this way, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,” (Hebrews 1:1-2a NIV). To understand God’s unfolding plan for mankind and the universe it is important to understand God’s plan as revealed in God’s Word given to those spokesmen of God who cam

October 27, 2019 A SLAVE OWNER WAS A DEAR FRIEND OF THE APOSTLE PAUL. Don’t take a knee yet! The bible records this introduction to a letter written by the Apostle Paul, “Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker,” (Philemon 1:1 NIV). Yes the slave owner Philemon was a dear friend of the Apostle Paul. Weird? Not! The bible book of Philemon consists of 25 verses. It is such a short book that one may wonder how it could have much to say of importance. Yet it speaks much to our generation. The reader must read and understand this book in the context of life 2000 years ago under Roman rule. It is a living real life drama of slavery i

SALVATION! Something to think about today. Our GOD, our heavenly Father, is kind and loving, and generous and in spite of our failures shows mercy and grace to us in many ways including our salvation. The Apostle Paul says, “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy,” (Titus 3:4-5a NIV). Salvation is all God’s work. There is nothing we could do to deserve it. Paul goes on to say, “He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, (Titus 3:5b-6 NIV). As Jesus said, “You must be born again,” and that wo

REAL HOPE...THE BLESSED HOPE. Many think things are hopeless in this world but the problem is they are looking in the wrong direction. Keeping your eyes horizonal really can bring discouragement and hopelessness. But looking heavenward will bring real hope because as the Apostle Paul said, “we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,” (Titus 2:13 NIV). Jesus could appear at any moment to take us to our heavenly home that He is preparing for us just as He said in the gospel of John chapter 14. That is real hope because it is based on God’s Word not man’s promises or opinions which often let us down. Keep your eyes and hope heavenward as y

TRUE OR FALSE? Jesus said, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven,” (Matthew 7:20-21 NIV). In the context Jesus was talking about those who professed to be God believers and followers but were really fakes. The Apostle Paul conveyed this same truth to the young preacher Titus in this manner, “To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and

GOD IS SPEAKING. DO YOU HEAR HIM? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to hear the voice of God? You can you know. God has a transmission line where you can tune in and hear the voice of God. You don’t need a $1000 phone or a data plan. You can be anywhere on planet earth and you can be of any socio-economic status and you can still hear the voice of God. God is not a respecter of persons. God has given us a talking book, called the bible or Scripture that actually speaks to a person’s heart (soul, mind, spirit) in an inaudible voice through God’s Holy Spirit. The bible expresses it this way, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for

GANG ATTACK AT HOUSE OF HOPE HAITI! JUST IN FROM HOUSE OF HOPE HAITI! House of Hope was invaded by a gang of about 15 people yesterday who came in shooting and looting. They robbed the Staff and residents (kids) of all their cell phones, watches , money and any other valuables they could find. The police arrived two hours later to end the siege of terror and allow the leaders (Pastor Elysee, Pastor Smith, and Bobby) to exit their office to which they fled for safety. The two resident security guards who are unarmed suffered a few cuts in the process but are OK. All other people are safe. We now have Police Officers on the property until we hire private armed security officers. We have a Team

HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH? Have you thought about it? When have we accumulated enough money and things? When does one stop earning a living and begin to seek after riches? When does a desire for “more” interfere with our contentment and lead us down the road to temptation, sinful desires, ruin and destruction? When does the pursuit of money and things harm our relationship with God and others and cause us heartbreak in many areas? When is enough enough? Here is what the Apostle Paul told his young disciple Timothy, “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

EXERCISE! Time for the gym? Maybe a run before breakfast? Or maybe a stop to workout after work. Or maybe join a team of some kind to stay fit? Good ideas? May be! The Apostle Paul commented on this in 1 Timothy 4:7b-8 NIV. He said that “physical training is of some value.” After all our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. And I must say that most of us want a healthy body. So work to stay healthy. But what about our training in godliness? Paul marks a contrast between physical training and training in godliness. Paul said, “train yourself to be godly. Godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” Physical training often takes b

A GO2HAITI TEAM FROM TRINIDAD is headed to Haiti tomorrow (Saturday). They will serve in Haiti from October 19-26 in the Cap Haitien area ministering at House of Hope Orphanage and in several of the churches and in the Three Strands Medical Clinic. (PICTURED IS A PREVIOUS TEAM FROM TRINDAD & US). The situation in Haiti is marked at this time by political turmoil and corruption, high inflation, shortages of food, water, medical care, and gas/diesel fuel. All of this causes violence to flare up constantly in certain areas across the country. Our Teams normally are secure in the Cap Haitien area but in the situations across the country today nothing can be taken for granted. PLEASE PRAY for thi

ASPIRATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS don’t always match up but when it comes to being a PASTOR/ELDER/OVERSEER God has definite necessary guidelines. Violating these guidelines can spell disaster for a church and the Pastor/Elder/Overseer. Following God’s Word would prevent a lot of heartaches for God’s family and would also bring a lot of joy. The Apostle Paul advised Timothy and the church on both the aspirations and qualifications of Pastor/Elder/Overseer. These things are still true today. “Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, ab

FIRST THINGS FIRST. Facebook is covered today with political posts and many of them are about the President and our other national leaders. And many of these posts come from Christians. Some, you may agree with and some you may not. I wonder if these Christians expressing themselves in the political arena ever take the time to pray for those they write about. Words can inflame but they can also heal. Prayers offered up to God for those we disagree with have the opportunity to have God respond and change peoples’ hearts and minds. Maybe our own heart and mind. Prayers offered up on behalf of those we agree with can bring encouragement to help them carry on especially if their cause is right

ARE YOU TOO BAD TO BE SAVED? I am sorry but the title of “the worst sinner” has already been taken. And that person has been saved through the immense patience, love, and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. God saved this “worst” person to show that every sinner who is willing to come to God and ask for and accept His forgiveness can be saved and have eternal life. Does that blow your mind? Here is what the Apostle Paul said about himself, “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners —of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense pa

DECEPTION...DESTRUCTION......DETERMINATION...Today resembles 2000 years ago in a lot of ways. In 2 Thessalonians 2 the Apostle talked about religious leaders of that day trying to lead Christians astray by DECEPTIVE teachings. They were saying Jesus had already returned and these Christians had missed the flight to heaven. The Satanic relatives of those false teachers are still with us today spreading their lies and deceiving people. Be careful of false and unbiblical teachers. Stick with the Word of God. Paul also said a day of DESTRUCTION is coming on earth and he describes it in detail in 2 Thessalonians 2. Be sure and read verses 1-12. You do not want to experience these events on earth.

DESIRES AND ACTIONS! As the Apostle Paul thought about the Christians in the city of Thessalonica and the expected return of the Lord Jesus Christ he said this to them, “With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus,” (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 NIV). As we pray for ourselves we should also pray for others. And the result of our prayers should be that the name of Jesus should be glorified i

GREAT HOPE! GREAT FUTURE! GREAT REUNION! GREAT PROMISE! GREAT ENCOURAGEMENT! How much greater can things get? The Apostle Paul explains all this to us in these words, “Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command

KEY WORDS ARE IMPORTANT. I think that most people know that in sentences, paragraphs, and chapters there are often KEY WORDS to be found. That is so in the Bible. The Apostle Paul has some key words for us today in 1 Thessalonians 4:9-12 NIV. The first is LOVE. “Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more.” Enough said. You can’t practice true love too much. The second word is QUIET. Paul said, “and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business
