WHAT DOES GOD LOOK LIKE? Artists have tried to show us down through the ages what God looks like. Poets have tried in many ways to share their thoughts about the characteristics of God. Writers have written books on it. Also people in many ways have tried to represent God in their own image. But if you really want to know what God looks like you should go to the source book of God's own statements about what He looks like. Just read God's Word, the Bible. ENOUGH! It is good to know someone that will give you all you NEED. Not all you want but all you need. That's right. That is what God's Word says. WHY ARE WE LIVING ANYWAY? Older Christians (relative term) sometimes wonder why they are still alive. Younger Christians sometimes wonder why they are alive and what the purpose of life is anyway. It can be easy to get off track and not remember why God has us here on earth. JESUS, SPIRITUAL LEADERS AND THE BODY OF CHRIST! The Bible is clear that God gave His Son so that we could have eternal life, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,” (John 3:16 NIV). Jesus in turn gave Spiritual Leaders to the Church, the body of Christ, so His people could be equipped for everything God required of them. HAVE A LIFE VERSE? Do you have a life verse or verses? Most Christians talk about certain bible verses that have made a great impact on them that now tends to guide them in certain ways. Here are the verses that help guide my thinking: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. IS IT TRUE? It's true! What goes around comes around! That's what the Apostle Paul said, among other things, in these verses, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. A WORLD OF CONTRASTS! In life we see contrasts all the time; light vs dark, strong vs weak, beautiful vs ugly, and good vs evil. The Apostle Paul uses contrasts throughout his writings to contrast the results of being a Christian and under God's influence and the ways of those under the world's influence. Society exerts a strong influence on the thought life, morals, and actions of every person as they develop and mature as human beings. Unless there is a strong counter Spiritual influence, hopefully by a Christian father and mother or other responsible person, disaster undoubtedly can lie ahead. A GREAT TRADE! What a trade! Death for life. A selfish self-centered sinful life put to death and a new life controlled by a totally loving, selfless, and merciful God in its place. As the Apostle Paul said, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. DO YOU HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS? I will be the first to admit that I don't have all the answers to life's problems. Not even close. But I know the one who does. As Christians we cry out to God in prayer but it often seems God does not respond and we get frustrated. We join a great company that spans through all generations who have experienced the same thing. The Apostle Paul was beset by a physical problem brought on by his adversary the Devil and all his prayers seemed to produce no positive answer from God. AMBASSADORS! Ambassadors are representatives of others; i.e., nations, companies, people. Some are good representatives and some are bad. God has appointed every Christian to be an Ambassador for Christ in this world we live in. It is our duty to bring His message of redemption and His gift of righteousness to a sinful and spiritually lost world. It is our duty to represent Christ in an accurate, urgent and positive way. There is no higher calling than to represent the King and ruler of all things. There is no greater message than the message that Christ has paid the price for the sins of everyone and now offers everyone the opportunity to be restored to a position of righteousness with God.


REFLECTION AND HURRICANES! Reflection is good to a certain extent if we don't become too self-absorbed. I think today's bible passage does cause us to reflect on things especially if a hurricane has ever visited you. I am reminded when preparing for hurricanes that I am not as young as I used to be. Preparation takes longer and is more tiring and recovery takes longer. BUT inwardly (spiritually) renewal is brought even more to the forefront of our attention. That has a tendency to happen when the media continually tells you that if you don't do what they say you will die. So we want to make sure we are prepared to meet God. REMEMBERING! On this day in 2017 a lot of Christian people along with multitudes of non-Christian people, many of whom are our relatives, friends, neighbors, & co-workers, were in a lot of trouble because of hurricane Irma. Maybe you were one of them or maybe you have been there before or in some other terrible circumstance. Let us remember God is there with us in these circumstances and God can use our experiences and circumstances to minister on His behalf to others. A DAY TO REMEMBER! I was just a baby when Pearl Harbor happened so I don’t remember from personal experience anything about the event that had a profound effect on my life at that time and for the remainder of my life.
