NEUROLOGISTS! I visit the neurologist on a regular basis since my wife had a stroke four years ago; for her continued health and well-being we visit her doctor together. They tell me a neurologist “treats disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.” I would think there would be a lot of politicians today who really need to see a neurologist because I am sure their brain has been affected by some kind of disorder. I would think most people never see a neurologist unless something drastic happens in their life. Now I can tell you from personal experience over the course of four years that there are vast differences in neurologists and we are thankful for the neurologist my wife h

TODAY! “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it,” (Psalm 118:24 ESV). We don’t know about tomorrow but God has given us today. We should thank God for this day and we should do it with a joyful spirit regardless of our circumstances for God has seen fit to allow us one more day in the earthly realm. We know God has a plan for this day for us. Let us not be fretting today about tomorrow because we don’t know what that day will bring nor do we even know if we will be here tomorrow. Jesus said, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble,” (Matthew 6:34 ESV). We should also reali

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT FAT? Really, what comes to mind when you think about FAT? Do you think of yourself as fat? Or when you think of fat does someone else come to mind? Something brought to mind this morning “the fat man’s platoon” which used to exist in the Marine Corps boot camp. This was a special place for those who entered the Marines over weight and needed some additional conditioning. It was a grueling place to be sent and I am glad I was never there. They do things differently today and have more politically correct names. But the term fat is used in other ways as well. There is the “fat cat” meaning a well to do person or one who is wealthy or affluent or even fertile or abundant

THE BEAUTY SALON! Yes, I had to make another trip to the beauty salon, not that I needed to go but my wife felt the need to visit the place. My praise of her beauty and the fallacy of visiting a place where there were so many women who actually needed to be there didn’t prevent her determination to see if I really knew what I was talking about. So off we went to the place where men are looked upon with suspicion and sometimes admiration when sitting among them. Sure enough all the handicapped parking spaces were full as was the entire parking lot. I am telling you there is money in making women more beautiful. Gossip and tales of adventure fill the airwaves when so many ladies come together

TURNING POINT! Those nations who were part of the allied alliance invasion of June 6, 1944, called D-Day, are marking the 75th anniversary of the day that a beachhead was established in France by the allied forces. Within a year the military might of the allies brought the war with Nazi Germany to a successful close. This invasion cost the allies dearly with thousands of their military personnel killed and tens of thousands wounded in a single day. They gave of their lives that the world might enjoy freedom from the Nazi tyranny. Today there are very few remaining survivors of that important day in history. The heroes are gone but because of them freedom lives on. We should not forget what t

IS TRUTH REALLY IMPORTANT? Truth is often defined as “the quality or state of being true” or some would say “that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.” Some would say it is simply “a fact or belief that is accepted as true.” With that last definition you can actually do away with truth. Just because someone has a belief something is true doesn’t necessarily make it true. Just watch the “fake news” media today and you will see what I mean. Truth really is important because acceptance of truth will determine where you spend eternity and how you live your life today. It appears that a majority of society has no regard for truth today. Just think about the terms we often use. We

CONTROL FREAKS? Aren’t we all to a certain extent; or at least most of us? At least that is what I observe in life. Why do most things in life operate on a schedule? Because someone has decided this is the way things should operate and everyone should fall in line; it may not be what we like! Take Doctor’s offices for example. Who wants an 8 o’clock appointment knowing that the doctor will not show up until 9AM? And who dictates at what time you give a urine sample? Do they really know anything about your body even though it’s a doctor’s office? Don’t get me wrong. I love doctors; I must because I give them enough money. Don’t send me an email about Docs because my son-in-law is a doctor and

IMITATORS! An imitator can be defined as “a person who copies the behavior or actions of another.” We see that very often in life with our children. It is amazing how they imitate us. You can often tell what parents are like by the actions of their children. In the Christian life who we choose to imitate and the things we choose to imitate are especially important. The Apostle John wrote to his “dear friend Gaius” whom he loved “in the truth” and gave him this challenge and encouragement, “Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God,” (3 John 1:11 NIV). The Apostle Paul also encouraged his

When Dr. Chuck Davis, Pastor Elysee Joseph, and Pastor Dumont Cardichon made the initial exploratory trip to Haiti in 2005 to see if God wanted them to begin a ministry there it was a time of trouble and turmoil in Haiti. There was a big United Nations military and law enforcement presence there at the time and many missionary organizations had left the country; some on a temporary basis and some permanently. Sometimes ignorance is bliss as it was for us as we traveled the roads of Northern Haiti meeting with Pastors, observing the spiritual and physical needs of the people and seeking God's place where we might best serve in Haiti. Pastor Elysee, I discovered years later, thought that I wou

REFRESHING THE HEARTS OF THE LORD’S PEOPLE! The Apostle Paul in writing a short letter to his friend Philemon commended him for his heart of love and the great joy and encouragement he brought to many people. To quote Paul, “Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people,” (Philemon v.7 NIV). We live in a society today where there are too many people who are always talking about all the world’s problems and bringing discouragement, despair and disappointment wherever they go. I think too many Christians fall into this category. You know who these people are because the minute they walk into the room you are looking for

IS IT SUMMER? Since Memorial Day is past everyone moves into summer mode and considers it summer time. It is true that summer officially begins on June 21 but what are a few calendar days between friends? The weather in most places in the U.S. is warmer and more pleasant and in some places it is downright hot. The swimming pools are open or close to it, picnics are happening, vacations are lined up and outdoor activities are in full swing. For those of us who live in the sunny South our A/C’s are tuned up and it is time to think about hurricane season. In some places the folks are still trying to clean up after storms and tornados and our hearts and prayers go out to them. All of us should
