TOUGH DECISIONS!

TOUGH DECISIONS! I am reminded each day of the tough decisions that people make in life. This week I have watched people face tough major decisions that will affect their life until the day they die. That is not easy for a senior citizen without family or close friends. This week I have also watched the field directors of our mission organization face really tough but necessary decisions that will affect many lives. Choices and decisions in life are not always easy. Sometimes they are just tough. Life can get messy and complicated. Reflecting on all this I am reminded of the tough decisions (from a human perspective) that God has made concerning the human race. I cannot think of a tough

TEAMWORK!

TEAMWORK! We can do more together as Christians than we can do separately. That principle is probably true in most things in life. Millie’s rehab facility has a team of people to serve people being treated there. No one person can do everything. If one person is failing in their job someone is suffering in some way. Politics, religion, race, sex and a lot of other topics are set aside to meet the needs of suffering people. As Christians we live in a suffering world. The people around us are spiritually dying and don’t even realize it. Christians need to be team focused like Jesus and the Disciples, Paul & Timothy, Paul & Titus, The Apostles & The Deacons of the early church. We need to se

EXERCISE, WHO NEEDS IT!

EXERCISE, WHO NEEDS IT? Two of our friends & fellow Pastors joined me to visit Millie at rehab yesterday. When we arrived Millie was in the therapy room working on her arms and hands. She wasted no time in telling me she had a few pains; and she wasn’t talking about me, Elysee or Dumont. But she still had to continue her exercising while we retired to the comfort of the waiting room. The right exercise is absolutely essential to Millie’s recovery. Her mission for the moment was soon accomplished and then we were all together catching up on the events in our lives. Right exercise is something we all need and that is also true in our spiritual lives as well. No exercise and fat or flab app

PLANS!

PLANS: It seems everyone has a plan for our life; from government to family, to the business world. But the plan that really matters is the plan God has for our life and sometimes we have a hard time understanding it. But just as God had/has a plan for the people of Israel so God has a plan for us. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,”(Jeremiah 29:11 NIV). Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever and He has a life plan for those who love Him and seek Him. God is serious when He says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart,” (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV). Tha

HOPE AND PATIENCE!

HOPE AND PATIENCE! “But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not have, we wait for it patiently,” (Roman 8:24-25 NIV). Hope is a big part of the Christians’ life as it has been for God-believers in every generation. Life is uncertain and full of twists and turns and the bible is full of examples of Old and New Testament individuals and characters that have placed their hope in God and His promises. In the Bible we see some examples of fulfillment of those promises and hopes and we see some that will only be fulfilled in eternity. When dealing with hope patience is a necessity. God does not always fulfill our hopes on our tim

CAR-JACKED!

CAR-JACKED! Being car-jacked has to be one of the worse feelings in the world. One is just driving along headed toward their destination when they stop for traffic or a traffic light and all of a sudden and unexpectedly they find their selves Car-Jacked against their will and in life threatening danger. The end of this event is uncertain. In recent conversations in Millie’s rehab facility I have found many Christians whose beliefs have been hi-jacked by Satan. It seems they started out in solid biblical beliefs but now the gay agenda has caused them to drift, global warming has deceived them, over-population theories cloud their perspective on abortion and world populations and Man’s abil

THE FUTURE!

THE FUTURE: I don’t know anyone who doesn’t give thought to the future. Some plan on the future based on their thinking. Some just ignore the future and live for today. Others live in constant fear of the future. And some look joyfully to the future. And there are probably many other viewpoints and thoughts about the future as are often expressed in movies, TV, books and other forms of media. But regardless of how or what we think about the future it does arrive. And it should have a place of importance in our lives NOW! The book of James says, “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes,” (James

ATTITUDE!

ATTITUDE - “People may hear your words but they feel your attitude.” I don’t know who said it but I certainly know what they mean. Even a casual observance of the people around us will reveal the reality of this quote. I wonder about us as Christians and our words toward the “unlovable” of the world. I believe we know all the words to use to try and convince the “unlovable” that we love them but does our attitude (via actions) actually match up to our words? The Apostle Paul said, “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had,” (Philippians 2:5 NLT). We are talking about a settled, firm, convicted state of mind that determines our actions in life. It is not an “act” but a reality

ENTHUSIASM FOR LIFE!

ENTHUSIASM FOR LIFE! My youngest granddaughter is in town to visit her father so we are delighted to spend a little time with her. She will begin her third year of college in the Fall and she has grown into a very beautiful young lady, with a great personality, and many plans in preparing for life. During this week though she just wants to have a good time enjoying the activities of South Florida and visiting with her father, her cousins, and the rest of the family here. So Millie and I were delighted when she visited Millie at the rehab center yesterday a few short hours after arriving in town. Rehab centers (i.e. skilled nursing facilities) in South Florida are filled with “older” people w

THREE STRANDS!

THREE STRANDS! At Caribbean Vision Ministries we love partnering with Three Strands in Haiti as they provide, “compassionate, sustainable, comprehensive health care” to the Haitian people. I wish I could say that all health care providers who claim to provide “compassionate” care really do. But I have discovered over the years and particularly over the last month that is not always the case. The organization may say they desire and have a goal to provide “compassionate” care but when the bottom line is draw far too many employees of the organization don’t have the same goal. I think far too many people in health care view their job as just a job to earn money while not really being concerned

MOVING DAY!

MOVING DAY! Millie moved from the hospital into a rehabilitation care facility yesterday. This is a very positive move as she continues to recover from surgery and also works on her ability to walk with a walker again and also some other personal care areas. She is doing well and is excited about preparing for future normal activity again. Please continue to pray for Millie’s improved physical strengthening and walking ability. We appreciate all of you who have prayed for us and we know God is answering your prayers. Thank you.

FOOD!

FOOD! I eat almost anything so being around hospital food is no big deal. But I notice hospital dieticians seem to take a different approach. They serve plenty of healthy food to sick people but taste; well that is a different story. Now I understand the blandness and reasoning behind that; however, sick people seem to eat very little. They tend to nibble at their food. Yet the kitchen sends three full meals a day. And I notice dieticians follow up to see if people are eating any of their food. Now that got me to thinking. Dieticians are smarter than a lot of Christians. How many Christians really pay attention to the spiritual food they are eating? The Bible says, “Like newborn babies, c

LONELY SOULS!

LONELY SOULS! As you might suspect I have spent been a lot of time in a hospital recently. It reminds me of times when I pastored local churches. One of the things that stand out is how many patients there are who never seem to have anyone visiting them or looking after them, i.e., a relative or friend. I wonder how some of these people receive the care they deserve. It appears to me that the old adage “the squeaky wheel gets the oil” applies often in the hospital and those who “can’t or won’t squeak “ may tend to get ignored or delayed in receiving care. Friends and family members are always important in life and certainly everyone should always cultivate those relationships. In Florida

IT IS FATHER'S DAY!

IT IS FATHER’S DAY! We wish all the Fathers among us a very happy Father’s day celebration. Until someone has a son or daughter of their own they will never know the joy and love that appears in the heart of a father as he looks upon his child. As much as that is true from a human standpoint we also know that God the Father feels that way towards us as His sons and daughters in the faith. “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court, (Psalm 127:3-5 NIV). Fathers, we ar

YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE YOU MEET MILLIE!

YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE YOU MEET MILLIE! In South Florida we have a lot of people from Haiti. So it is no surprise that the lady who cleans Millie’s hospital room is from Port Au Prince, Haiti. It was a surprise that her name is also Millie and she and Millie my wife connected. She is a sweet hard working Christian lady and a joy to see and share with each morning. God is good and places His testimony in in the most needful places. I wonder how often God’s people miss God’s intended blessings because we don’t take the time to take an interest in those people around us. Not the rich and powerful but those often considered “lowly in life” by our society. The Apostle Paul reminds us to conside

PATIENCE!

PATIENCE. Hospitals are great places that are used by God to teach patience. Sometimes in some hospitals I think the only places in the hospital that move quickly are the ER with patients brought in by EMT’s, surgical, & ICU units and maybe security when there is a problem like taking coffee into a restricted area. In regular patient rooms one wonders if the call button is actually connected to a nurse’s station and if “I will let them know” means just that or if a person will actually respond to the situation prior to shift change. Just saying. God does address this matter of slow responses in hospitals in the Bible you know. The Apostle Paul said, “But if we hope for what we do not yet

THE SOURCE OF WISDOM!

THE SOURCE OF WISDOM. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you,” (James 1:5 NIV). Sometimes the answers to life aren’t clear and obvious to all concerned. Sometimes opinions are divided among people involved in the common situations of life and sometimes it just seems confusion reigns. But the source of all wisdom is God and God often uses people to share His wisdom with us. I am thankful for the many friends I have in life who have wisdom gained from God over a lifetime and I am thankful they share some of that wisdom with me. And I am thankful for the new people God brings into my life who also have God

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday! Today is our daughter Mary’s birthday. We are rightfully proud of Mary and her love for Jesus, her love of family, friends and God’s Kingdom in this world. The world would be a much poorer place without her and she is a blessing to many people. Millie and I would love to spend this day with her but that can’t happen this year. Today is a day of some big decisions concerning the future of Millie’s personal health care at this time and we would appreciate your prayers for wisdom concerning these decisions. A lot of people, maybe even you, have had to face big medical decisions and make choices, maybe even choices that you don’t or didn’t like. So we ask for your prayers today c

CAN'T WE JUST TONE DOWN THE NOISE?

CAN’T WE JUST TONE DOWN THE NOISE? As a former Pastor of a number of different churches in a number of different States in the U.S. I found myself quite often in hospital Intensive Care Units to visit people in serious medical conditions. For the most part these areas seemed to be very quiet, sterile, solemn, and serious except when actually caring for arriving people in serious need. That has not been my experience this week in the ICU of a local hospital ministering to my family. I am not questioning the quality of the medical care being received by patients nor the dedication and expertise of the people giving care to the patients. Undoubtedly these things should be at the highest level

LOOK UP AND LOOK IN THE BOOK!

LOOK UP AND LOOK IN THE BOOK! “The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard,” (Psalm 19:1-3 NIV). If anyone on planet earth looks up to the heavens in the daytime or nighttime God reveals to them in a general way the existence of a great Creator God. The message has been impressed on the heart and mind of mankind since the creation of the heavens and the creation of man. Mankind through the deception and wickedness caused by Satan and each person’s own sinful nature may deny the existence of God and make up all kinds
