SOLAR PANELS! It is reported that California has become the first state to require that new homes be built with solar panels beginning in 2020. Housing is already extremely expensive in California so this is sure to drive the costs of building a home in that State much higher. In Palm Beach County Florida where I live it looks like a large scale solar plant is taking shape on 401 acres that could eventually power 15,000 homes. In another area Florida Power & Light has recently added 3.5 million solar panels. Maybe it is a good time to consider buying stock in solar panel companies. As I read these things I am reminded how much the world has changed in my lifetime in regards to lighting and electric power; solar, wind, nuclear, gas, coal, etc. I won’t take the time to bore you with all those things but I do want to say how much I appreciate those people whom God has gifted in this area to make life better for all of us.
All this has led me to think about what Jesus has said about Himself and light in this world. In Jesus’ day, just like today, spiritual darkness permeated society in every realm including the realm of the religious leaders. Jesus, in his conversations with the crowds said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life,” (John 8:12 NIV). At the time he was confronted by some of the religious leaders of that day called Pharisees who questioned the validity of what He was saying. Jesus revealed the Pharisees spiritual state when He said, “You do not know me or my Father, If you knew me, you would know my Father also,” (John 8:19 NIV). There are always leaders of those living in spiritual darkness around us at all strata of society including the church. A person may choose not to use electric power and remain in darkness or they can flip the switch and be able to see things clearly. In this life those living in spiritual darkness must make a decision as well. They can choose to follow the person who is the spiritual light of the world or they can remain in darkness and in the domain of those who choose not to flip the spiritual switch and follow Jesus. But when it comes to spiritual light there is only one true light and that is Jesus.
