SNAKES! I hate to admit it but I just hate snakes and have all my life. My first instinct is to kill them as soon as I can. I know there are good snakes and bad snakes and I also know that where I live the wrong snake bite can be fatal. One day a snake attempted to enter the house through the front door entrance which I think would have been almost impossible for him but you know how sneaky snakes are. Once I surprised a snake as it tried to enter the back entrance to the house. In neither case was I able to capture or kill the snakes. So I guess up to his point the snakes and I are in a stand-off. The good news is that in both cases the snakes were harmless. The bad news is that I have to keep my eyes open for snakes that have a desire to live in the same house with us.
The bible also speaks of snakes. Even Adam and Eve had to deal with the snake’s ways and it has cost mankind dearly. In fact most of our problems can be traced back to mankind’s encounter with a lying and deceptive snake. We can’t change the facts of history, though people try, but I am more concerned about the snake’s ways and how it affects us today. The Apostle Paul warned the Church at Corinth, “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ,” (2 Corinthians 11:3 NIV). The Apostle John discusses the serpent in this manner, “that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray,” (Revelation 12:9 NIV). I don’t believe the snakes attempting to get into our house were Satan in disguise but I do believe that the ancient serpent, the devil or Satan, is out to deceive us and keep us from following the Lord Jesus Christ in simplicity and purity of devotion to our Savior. Satan is still deceiving the world and turning them away from God and Satan is also working on Christians and attempting to lead us away from the simple gospel and offer us worldly fruit that causes us to stray away from our devotion to Jesus. There are dangerous snakes in this world and not all of them crawl on their belly. Some of them stand on two legs and are very deceptive. Be aware of snakes as you move about today. They seem to be very active.
