FEAR! There are people in the United States and other nations of the world who try to make us live in fear in every area of our lives. They make threats, send bombs or chemical agents through the mail to public figures & government offices and even plant bombs among crowds in public places. Often people are injured or killed so all threats must be taken seriously and these threats must always be condemned. Our world is a place where Satan is active and the sinful human heart is fertile ground for his active sowing of hatred toward others. This often produces violence by the person against other human beings who may be in disagreement with the person with a heart of hatred. This reaction can never be totally eliminated nor can we ever be totally secure from the actions of a heart filled with hate.
In the midst of a society where many people are filled with animosity and hatred toward others who disagree with them on certain issues of life God offers this encouragement. “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident…Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord,” (Psalm 27:1-3,14 NIV). We should expect our public officials and law enforcement personnel to protect us and keep us safe as much as possible but it is impossible for anyone to protect us 24/7 from all those in the world who would do us harm and God does not intend for us to live our lives in fear. A Christian’s ultimate protection is in the Lord and as a Christian one must live their life relying on the wisdom God gives them and expect God to protect them and lead them through life’s daily living and circumstances. Perfect love found in Jesus will cast out fear (1 John 4:18). (Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
