FAITH OR SIGHT?

FAITH OR SIGHT? How do you live your daily life? I did not ask, “How do you say you live your daily life?” I asked, “How DO you live your daily life?” God’s Word says that the Christian should be walking or living by faith, “We live by faith, not by sight,” (2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV). What would be God’s definition of “faith”? The writer of the book of Hebrews shared this definition, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see,” (Hebrews 11:1 NIV). “Hope” for most people carries an air of uncertainty. They may want it to happen but in the reality of their own mind it may or may not happen.

The faith that God gives us through His promises in His Word concerning things that we cannot see at the present time but yet those promises fill our hearts and minds with a certainty that they will happen is real faith. This produces the real hope of certainty that drives our actions in our daily life and assures us of the future. Sight on the other hand follows the way of the world; only believe what you can see or feel and only act on what those in the world tell you is reasonable and/or expedient. Sight also usually rules out God and His supernatural abilities so of course there is an air of uncertainty.

“Have faith in God” Jesus answered, I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him,” (Mark 11:22-23 NIV). Mountains come in all shapes and sizes. Some mountains are hard to climb and others are hard to move. But the one who created all things and has seen fit to allow those mountains to arise in our lives is unmoved by seeming obstacles. The key is to have faith in God. God does not ask you to move the mountains or be terrified by the size of the mountains nor to place your sight on the world for the answers to your mountains. Jesus said, “it will be done for him.” We believe and God works. Walk in faith not by sight and your hopes in God’s promises will become convictions and fulfilled realities.
