THE PROMISE OF COMFORT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRIALS! All of us will experience troubles and trials and often these come because of our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul probably understood this as well as anyone who ever lived. Paul discusses trails and the comfort offered or promised by God in 2 Corinthians 2:1-11. In these verses God is called “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles,” (v.3-4 NIV). Sometimes we forget that we are not the only person undergoing trials and sometimes we forget that God is in our trial with us and offers comfort to us if only we rely on Him. Sometimes we bring trouble on ourselves, sometimes others bring trouble on us, and sometimes God allows us to experience trials and troubles so that He can comfort us and train us in our relationship with Him and others. Regardless of the trial that comes into our life God promises to be our comfort in the middle of the trial.

The prophet Nahum said, “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him,” (Nahum 1:7 NIV). People seek comfort from their trials in many different ways and often those ways of escape from trials often lead to more problems instead of solutions. A promise that we have from God is that He is good and He cares for those who trust in Him. But often people are quick to blame God for their problems but not so quick to seek God for His answer to the trials they are undergoing. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light,” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV). We have a world of experts today who offer solutions to the trials we endure in life but there is only one person who can really comfort us in ALL our troubles and give us REST FOR OUR SOULS. We have a promise that there is ONE whom we can fully trust in as we endure the trials of this life and He cares for us. Comfort comes to us when we obey God’s Word to “cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you,” (1 Peter 5:7). Let us be wise and run to the God of all comfort when the trials come into our lives.
