GOT YOUR EARS ON?
GOT YOUR EARS ON? My ability to hear has decreased over the years and finally everyone in my family was irritated by my requests for them to repeat themselves. Some handled that nicely some not so nice. My friends were kind and never complained. My wife and I had some interesting conversations because of my misunderstandings of what she said. If you have ever been in my situation you will understand. Finally I broke down and put out the money for new ears. Now I am just broke but I have really good hearing with my new hearing aids. It is fun now because people are never sure when I am wearing my new aids so they have to watch what they are saying about me when I am around. I have to admit I was missing a lot when I didn’t hear well and now there are a lot of things that irritate me that I didn’t hear before. This I know; hearing is important in physical life and our spiritual life.
A lot of people are walking around without their spiritual ears on. A favorite expression of Jesus was, “If any man has ears let him listen.” Jesus had a lot to say about man’s relationship to God and He didn’t want people to miss it. When the Master speaks people need to listen. It could mean the difference in where one inhabits eternity. To hear Jesus today you need to open the bible and listen to what Jesus has to say. It is the equivalent of “having ears” and listening. In Revelation chapters two and three the expression, “he who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” is used seven times. In other words we need to read these words and listen with attentive spiritual ears to what God is saying. Even with my new ears on I still need to listen carefully to what people are saying or it is just noise among all the noise in the world. When we read God’s Word we need to listen with “our spiritual ears on” to what God is saying to us. Those words aren’t just words on a page. They are God’s message to us today and we really do need to be attentive to hear what God is saying. Good ears are only good if used correctly.
