MEDITATION! Some of the things I like about being an early riser (on most days) are the quietness of the moment, the sounds in the house that are quite distinct at this time but not so audible later in the day, the sounds and sights of nature that surround me, and the quiet time with God and His Word. There is time to read undisturbed and actually think about what God is saying to me personally and meditate on the implications of that as it relates to me and the world I live in. I wish I could say I receive profound thoughts that are life-changing for me and others I share with but I know I am a simple person and God deals with me in that manner. I am happy if God just reveals to me one thought about Him that changes me or makes me think about life in more than a surface manner.
The Psalmist said, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one,” (Psalm 28:7-8 NIV). I am thankful this morning as the lightning flashes around me, the clock on the wall continues to tick, and the day stretches before me that I know my strength for the day comes from God, that my trust is not in man or his systems but in God and He promises to help me. Now as the rain pours down my joy is found in God and the shelter He provides and now I have a quiet time to sit and praise Him. I trust your day will rest in the same promises of Psalm 28:7-8 or in the promises God has given you personally for the day.
