KIDS...THEY DO GROW UP!

July 11, 2020

KIDS…THEY DO GROW UP! On one particular occasion for a few days our family of four of yesteryear was together again in Florida. Both of our children have families of their own now and some of their children have children of their own. But for a few days a few years ago my wife & I and our daughter and son were together once again without other family members around. This hasn’t happened very often since they became adults and married. They are not children or even young adults now but they are still our “kids” and always will be. They have grown into wonderful human beings with a love for God, a compassion for others, and a desire to see the wrongs of this world righted. And on this occasion they were here to show their love for their mother who had been going through some trying physical times. My wife and I rejoiced over their presence and the encouragement they brought with them. Our “kids” aren’t perfect but then they are probably a reflection in many ways of their parents.

As children of our heavenly Father He also expects us to grow up. Though we begin as spiritual “kids” and enter into God’s Kingdom through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and our acceptance of this relationship as His “kids” God does not expect us to remain “kids.” What God is looking for eventually in our spiritual lives is that we arrive at spiritual maturity and the full measure of a mature person reflecting the glory of God in our life and actions. The Apostle Paul said, “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ,” (Ephesians 4:11-13 NIV). It brings us great joy when our adult children are able to function on their own in adulthood and be a credit to God and society. I am sure it brings God great joy when His spiritual children do the same in the spiritual realm. How are you doing as a “kid” of the King? ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
