SINLESSNESS AND PRAYER! Even though we may be Christians we are not sinless but we know the ONE who is and that affects our prayers. I may be stating the obvious but it is important. The writer of the book of Hebrews said: “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are —yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need,” (Hebrews 4:14-16 NIV).
It is in the work of Jesus on the cross and our saving relationship with Him that gives us confidence to approach a Holy God. Our faith is in Jesus not ourselves. We cling to that faith through life’s journey because nothing else will suffice. Jesus identifies with us and understands our needs. He has walked in our shoes but without sin. And now Jesus is the only way to bring all our needs before the throne of God and receive the grace and mercy we need in every situation. We do not always know the outcome of our prayers but God knows the end from the beginning and will answer in the way that He deems best for us. After all we seek His will not our own; just as Jesus did when He walked this earth. But God always provides the grace and mercy we need and the work and ministry of Jesus on our behalf gives us the assurance this is true. So let us come to God in prayer through Jesus boldly and confidently knowing that God will answer. After all how could God refuse the pleading of Jesus on our behalf? Grace and mercy are assured.
