REST! A time out to rest is really important whether it is just a short break from work or a long night’s sleep. God designed us to rest physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. A shortage of rest in any of these areas can affect any of us and possibly with severe consequences. But things can rob us of the rest we need. Sometimes these things are outside our control and sometimes we are just negligent in our diligence to rest properly. I believe most people travel through a lifetime without finding rest for their soul in spite of all the things and avenues they try. And that is too bad because Jesus gave us the answer to finding spiritual rest in a life of spiritual restlessness. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light,” (Matthew 11:28-30). Everyone needs true spiritual rest. It is found in Jesus. This is one area you cannot afford to ignore or be less than diligent in caring for. Your eternal well-being depends on your action.
Though the world around us is often in turmoil because of the works of Satan and evil people with evil motives we can truly find rest in the midst of this troubled world. People who have never found rest in Jesus often become frustrated with life and in their search for satisfaction of perceived or real injustices in life turn to actions that produce more unrest in their lives and the lives of others. As people with faith in Jesus and as people who have found real rest in Jesus Christians must cling to Him and live the kind of life God wants us to live and follow His principles since we are yoked to Him and not to this world. People who are yoked to darkness will produce darkness and people who are yoked to The Light will produce light and be at rest. Let us never forget that God is in ultimate control of events in this world and because of that we can find rest in Him.("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
