HOPE AND PATIENCE! “But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not have, we wait for it patiently,” (Roman 8:24-25 NIV). Hope is a big part of the Christians’ life as it has been for God-believers in every generation. Life is uncertain and full of twists and turns and the bible is full of examples of Old and New Testament individuals and characters that have placed their hope in God and His promises. In the Bible we see some examples of fulfillment of those promises and hopes and we see some that will only be fulfilled in eternity. When dealing with hope patience is a necessity. God does not always fulfill our hopes on our time schedule. God’s thoughts are not always our thoughts. God holds out hope for us in many areas to produce patience in us and to conform us to His image.
Life is full of times when we find God working on us in the area of hope and patience. Some times are simple and some are serious. One such serious time of hope and patience for my wife and me was when she left the hospital following surgery and moved to the rehab facility. We hoped she would be able to start physical rehabilitation immediately and speed on her way to recovery. It is sad to say she developed several “leaks” from the areas of incision from her surgery, a blood clot, and several other “little” problems. Disappointed? Yes, to be sure we were. Hopeful? Absolutely, we have a great God and many prayer warriors were standing with us. Patience? Yes, but at the same time we were praying for a quick but successful solution to the problems. Finally, my wife received word that her program of rehab could move forward and our hopes were fulfilled for the present. I am sure you have experienced times like that in your life. If you haven’t I am sure you will at some time. Patience, even today several years later, we are still working on it. God is good and our hope is always in Him.
