THE FUTURE? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t give thought to the future. Some plan on the future based on their thinking. Some just ignore the future and live for today. Others live in constant fear of the future. And some look joyfully to the future. And there are probably many other viewpoints and thoughts about the future as are often expressed in movies, TV, books and other forms of media. But regardless of how or what we think about the future it does arrive. And it should have a place of importance in our lives NOW! The book of James says, “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes,” (James 4:14 NIV). In light of eternity our life span is very short, like a morning mist that disappears with the sun. The outcome of life is sure and the implications are obvious. What awaits us in eternity depends on our advance planning now. The Devil would like to deceive us into believing that we have lots of time to plan our future. The reality is no one except God knows when the clock runs out on our earthly life. The Bible says, “I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation,” (2 Corinthians 6:2 NIV). If you haven’t done your planning for eternity now is the time God has allotted you to do that and it is still true that all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.
