International Children’s Day - it seems everybody has a “day” these days. So on this particular day in one year I was celebrating this day by showing a slide presentation on House of Hope Orphanage in Haiti to the folks at a Church in Lake Park, FL. Then I shared a message especially related to the Youth of this Haitian Church on “How Kids and Youth Can Beat the Giants Facing Them In Life.” It is important for all of us to recognize there will be giants of different kinds in life but with God’s help the giants can be defeated and we can live a successful life for God.
Psalm 127:3 says, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him,” (NIV). Children are a blessing from God and should be treated as such and trained to follow God in every way. So on this special day on the calendar, International Children’s Day (it usually falls on the second Sunday in June in the U.S.), make it a special point to let your children know how blessed you are by God to have them as your children. It would not be a bad idea to do this every day. We should also teach them how to overcome the fears and giants in our lives. A study of 1 Samuel 17 would be good to share with your children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Just as David beat the giant in his life so can we beat the giants in our lives because “nothing is impossible with God,” (NLT). ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis.
