WORDS! We live in a society filled with words of all kinds. There are beautiful words that thrill the heart and mind. There are dirty words that pollute the heart and mind. There are funny words that cause us to double over in laughter. There are angry words that stir up hate and division among people. There are first words uttered by children that bring joy and delight. There are last words from our friends and relatives that bring tears and sorrowful hearts. There are words that fill the airwaves, words that appear on the printed page and then there are the words in text messages that really aren’t words at all. And sometimes words are just noise disturbing all around them. But of all the words that I have seen and heard in my lifetime that please and thrill me are the words of God found in the bible. “And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times,” (Psalm 12:6 NIV).
The Psalmist tells us that the words of God are as pure as they could ever be; just as the silver spoken of in this verse had passed through the most rigid refining process of man known in that day to make it as pure as possible. The words of the bible have also passed through every examining process known to man and yet are shown to be just as the Psalmist said, “the words of the Lord are flawless,” perfect, without error as originally given. The words of the Bible are trustworthy, beautiful, inspiring, and life giving. They reveal to us the past, present and future of mankind and give us confidence in the God of creation and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. Saints down through the ages have tested and proved the words of the bible through life experiences including births and deaths. If our life is to be filled with words then let them be the words of the Living God and let all other words be secondary. And let our prayer be, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer,” (Psalm 19:14 NIV).
