OPPRESSION! “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord have never forsaken those who seek you,” (Psalm 9:9-10 NIV). When the bible talks about the oppressed it is speaking of all those who suffer wrong at the hands of others with no visible pathway to justice. Often these oppressed people are afflicted and unhappy through no fault of their own but time and circumstances cause them to be in these situations. The oppression may come through foreign governments or our own government, employers, criminals, or individuals in our lives. And most of the time life just looks hopeless.
In many countries outside the United States Christians find themselves oppressed by their governments and there are no visible means of escape. Even fellow Christians around the world seem to have deserted them in their distress. But God has not forgotten them and they have not forgotten God. Those who know the name of God will trust in Him and God has “never forsaken those who seek” Him. The Lord is a refuge, a strong tower, a fortress, for the oppressed in times of trouble. No one knows how long the oppression will last or how long any trouble will last that comes into our lives. The times are in God’s hands not ours. But this one truth we have, the “Lord has never forsaken those who seek” Him. Seek and you shall find the Lord with you in your journey through life every day.
