THE SILENT OBSERVER? “The Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish,” (Psalm 1:6 NIV). The way we are often treated in this world we wonder if anyone ever looks out for our interest. It seems many people are out for me, me, me, meaning themselves, without regard for others. And this approach to life by many people often brings tragic consequences into the lives of those who sacrifice daily to help those in need around them. Often one may think there is no justice in this world.
But as Christians we can be assured there is someone looking out for our interests each step of our way. God is always watching and working so let us live secure in that knowledge and look forward to a day that is under God’s control. Bad things do happen to good people and we don’t always understand the reason why? But let us remember the final outcome, “the way of the wicked will perish.” This is not a day of “an eye for an eye.” And often it seems justice does not prevail. It is also true that God is not just a silent observer but He is also an active participant in our lives through the work of the Holy Spirit. So whether others watch over our ways for good or not it is still true that, “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,” (Romans 8:28 NIV). Even if we do not always understand how God works we do have His assurance that He is working for our good. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
