FELLOWSHIPPING WITH JESUS AND OTHERS! You have to admit that the Apostle John knew Jesus pretty well having walked with Him while Jesus was on earth, having stood at the foot of Jesus’ cross, and having Jesus assign his earthly mother’s care to John while Jesus was dying on the cross. And we know that the Apostle John spent His entire life after meeting Jesus promoting God’s kingdom and the message of the cross and even while in exile on the island of Patmos he recorded the future events of God’s kingdom. So John should know a few things about fellowshipping with Jesus and how we can do that and also fellowship with each other.
“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete,” (1 John 1:3 NIV). There is no doubt that there is joy in fellowshipping with other Christians. And that joy is brought about because of our common love for and connection to our heavenly Father and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. When we read the Word of God that reveals what John and the other Apostles saw and heard in and from the Lord Jesus Christ our hearts are drawn closer to other Christians so that we enjoy being in each other’s company and we enjoy the work of the Holy Spirit among us.
Constant fellowship with Jesus is important in our lives but also fellowship with other Christians is important because it helps to make our joy complete in Jesus. Other Christians are important in our lives and they are God’s gift to us to help our joy in this earthly life be complete. There are multitudes of differences in the lives of those who are part of the Body of Christ but there is a common connection found in Jesus that allows those in the Body to fellowship together with harmony and complete joy because of God’s Spirit working within us. Praise God for fellow Christians. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
