JESUS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE FOR US IN OUR PRIORITIES. “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness,” (Matthew 9:35 NIV). A lot of Christians have lost sight of the need to be among the people all around us “for God’s purposes.” We recognize the fact that most of us have to be among people in order to earn a living, shop, or be involved in ordinary endeavors in life; but do we as Christians recognize the fact that we are there to be God’s living presence and representatives to a lost and dying world? Jesus made it His purpose in life to go to where people were in order to demonstrate the presence of God among them and preach the Word of God to them.
To reach a world of seven or eight billion people for Jesus Christ it is going to take intentional action on the part of the Body of Christ to do as Jesus did and saturate “all” the towns and villages of the world with “the good news of the kingdom.” The Church must prepare the people of “The Body of Christ” to proclaim the message “of the kingdom” just as Jesus prepared His Disciples to do the same. It is not enough to just provide buildings for the masses to come and hear the message of Jesus Christ but rather we must prepare the “Body of Christ” to take the message to the masses. I fear too much is made of church building provided performances and not enough of training and sending disciples to where the lost live on a daily basis.
Jesus not only proclaimed the “good news of the kingdom” but He also was “healing every disease and sickness.” Jesus not only gave out the message He also demonstrated the power of the message. Now we may not be able to heal the physical diseases and sicknesses of the people we come into contact with but we are able to demonstrate the power of God in the changed lives we live because of God’s power in saving us and working in our lives. When people see, hear and understand how God has taken lost sinners like us, saved us, made us new, stood our feet on the Rock Jesus, and given us a new life they will see the power of God at work in this life. And let us remember that “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ,” (Romans 10:17 NIV). As we live the message and proclaim the message God’s Spirit will do His work and save those we share with. Now let us get out there and model Jesus.("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
