THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE AND INTRINSIC VALUE!
THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE AND INTRINSIC VALUE! Another thing to note about the sanctity of human life being established by creation is this: God placed intrinsic value on every person. God did this through at least four things we shall think about and reflect on. First is the fact God established man’s position in the world. Second is the fact that God provided social protection for mankind. Third is the fact that God has provided redemption for all of mankind. Fourth is the fact God is the ultimate judge of the length of life for all mankind. As you have discovered by now if you have been reading these daily reflections most of our reflections on a topic cover several days and often a week
God in the act of creating man also established man’s position in the world. After God created Adam and Eve the Bible tells us, “God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground,” (Genesis 1:28 NIV). After God created everything else then He made man. And He placed man to be head over everything He had created. And He looked at His creation and His plan and noted that it was good. Adam & Eve were placed by position over everything on planet earth. Their value was above everything on earth. They were to rule over it. By virtue of their creation by God and in the image of God and the position God granted them they attained intrinsic value. Adam & Eve had inherent value given by God because up to this time they certainly had done nothing to attain to this value and position.
All of mankind is that way. God has given each of us a position of worth in this world far above the creation around us. It is a position we have inherited because of our distant parents Adam & Eve and the fact we are made in the image of God. God still sees us as having intrinsic or inherent value. People get caught up in saving the planet while ignoring or destroying the human beings around them. Our worth is not dependent on our education, financial standing, social position, physical characteristics or anything other than our position as given to us by God Himself. That is one reason it is so disturbing to see people marching in groups to get out a message of “save the planet” or “save our trees” or “prevent global warming” and many, if not most, of those same people will carry signs saying “pro-choice” and by those signs meaning it is OK to kill babies in the womb who have intrinsic or inherent value to God. The sanctity of human life is worth reflecting on.
