THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE AND CREATION! The Sanctity of Human Life is Established by Creation. “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’ So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; make and female he created them,” (Genesis 1:26-27 NIV). So in the very beginning of the human race the sanctity of mankind is established; we are created in God’s image. At least a thousand years after Abraham’s life ended on planet earth the Psalmist reflected on the sanctity of human life as well, “For you (God) created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be,” (Psalm 139:13-16 NIV).
It is quite obvious from God’s Word that people are here because of direct action by God in creation and that God is quite aware of every human being as they are formed in their mother’s womb. People are not the product of an evolutionary process. “Evolution is the process by which an organism becomes more sophisticated over time and in response to its environment.” Humans did not climb out of the swamp or come into being from any other supposed evolutionary process. Humans do not come from some sub-, non-, or pre-human brute form. That is not how the Bible describes the way man came into being. God says man came into being when God created him and evidently full-grown. God did not assemble man over time or through a process of time. Man is a direct, special and immediate creation of God. (If my use of “man” offends you I am sorry but I admit I am “old school.”
David indicates in Psalm 139 that God is still involved in the process of every life that comes into being. God is not involved in the same way as with Adam. God uses human parents to bring forth human life, which God oversees, and at the same time God instills our life with a soul and spirit. And though our finite minds have a hard time comprehending all that is involved in the life-giving process, even with all our medical advances, God still is the author and sustainer of life. The bible says that it is in God that we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28).
God knows exactly what each of us will be like when we are born. He knows our family traits and our family defects. He knows how short or tall we will be and all the other characteristics about us. Nothing comes to us that is not run by God first. God does not make junk and human life, which is very precious to God, should not be snuffed out through abortion. In God’s eyes life is very sacred and we should see life through God’s eyes as well. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
