A TRUE SERVANT OF GOD IS OBEDIENT!
A TRUE SERVANT OF GOD IS OBEDIENT. “And being found in appearance as a man he (Jesus) humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:8 NIV). Jesus was obedient to the Father in all things—even death on the cross. The bible says that Jesus was tempted in all points just as we are but yet He was without sin. In other words He was obedient to the Father at all times and in all ways—even if it meant going to the cross for you and me. Obedience to God is a key theme of the entire Bible. And the New Testament gives Christians multitudes of guidelines to follow in order to be obedient to God. And God even gives us the Holy Spirit to help us be obedient to Him.
Every Christian should continually struggle with the question, “How can I best serve God?” But most Christians don’t even ask the question. Christianity is in the “serve me” generation not the “how can I serve you” generation. But I am thankful for all those who are willing to serve God and ask the question, “How can I best serve God? The answer to that question begins with being obedient to God in all things. If you want God to use you then be obedient to Him. If you are obedient to God in small things and serve Him in small things then He will use you for greater things.
In our generation everyone wants to be a General and nobody wants to be a private in God’s army. But God is looking for servants. God is looking for people who are willing to change diapers, wash feet, and minister to the widows and orphans. God uses different people in different ways but God wants His servants to be obedient in all things. Servanthood begins by surrender to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and the outflow and proof of that surrender is willing service for God among those whom society considers the lowest of society whether that is in socio-economic standing, morality, health, or in some other disparaged way. Christians, on an individual basis, may be called by God to serve those who may be materially rich or poor but the key issue for the Christian is obedience to God’s calling. How is God calling you to serve Him?
