THE RESULT OF THE WORD OF GOD FOR THE CHRISTIAN. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work,” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Note those two words “so that” in verse 17. There is a result expected from the use of God’s Word in the lives of God’s people (“servants”) and that is that they may be “thoroughly” equipped to do what God expects of them (every good work). God will not expect a Christian to do what God has not equipped them to do or given them the tools to prepare for that responsibility. The Christian’s responsibility is to study the book God has given them so that they may be prepared to do what God expects of them.
God wants to equip the Christian to live in this world successfully and to prepare for eternity appropriately. As the verse suggests God wants us to be called, “men or women of God.” God wants us to be so changed by the Spirit of God and the Word of God that when people see our actions they know who our Father is. When God’s Word is read and appropriated correctly God will use His Word to prepare you…to equip you…to be His servant in this world. God calls us to do “good” in this world and God, through His Word, equips us to do “good.” If we fail it is not God’s fault.
We live in a self-serving, it is all about me, society today. A lot of young people today have to have their “space” where they don’t have to or want to face the real issues of life. And it seems “everything” offends someone today so we rip more and more historical realities out of our society so we don’t have to face our own past or our ancestor’s past. And certain segments of society think everything should be about them and their feelings in contrast to what others may feel or think. To keep a proper perspective in a divided society the Christian should focus on what the Word of God says and appropriate its principles and teachings so that we may be true “servants” of God equipped to do God’s “good works” in our society in a way that preaches Christ and honors God.( "Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
