THE BIBLE IS A USEFUL BOOK!
THE BIBLE IS A USEFUL BOOK! “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work,” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV). The entire bible is a useful book. There is no part of the book that doesn’t have value in our life. Sometimes we have a hard time figuring out what God is trying to use certain parts of the book for in our lives. When we come across those parts then we need to devote more time to that part of the Word so we can find out what God is saying to us.
Martin Luther wrote, “I study my Bible like I gather apples. First, I shake the whole tree that the ripest may fall. Then I shake each limb, and when I have shaken each limb, I shake each branch and every twig. Then I look under every leaf. I search the Bible as a whole like shaking the whole tree. Then I shake every limb – study book after book. Then I shake every branch, giving attention to the chapters. Then I shake every twig, or a careful study of the paragraphs and sentences and words and their meanings.” WOW! How often have you and I taken the time to study God’s Word like this? Most of us think that we are so busy we don’t have the time for this. Yet, if we hold in our hands the most important book in the world, God’s book, should we not think that our time is more well invested in this book than all the other sources of media in the world?
There are at least four things noted here that God is using His Word for in our lives today. We need to shake the tree to discover what God is saying to us in the areas of teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. After all as God’s “servants” we do want to be equipped to do “every good work” God wants us to do. Don’t we? Let’s continue our reflection on these things tomorrow.
