A CONCLUSION TO REFLECTIONS ON PSALM 139. Let me finish these reflections where we started in Psalm 139:17-18, 23-24 NIV, “How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you,” (v.17-18). How do we created beings even begin to comprehend the thoughts of God? Just the thought of God having thoughts blows my mind. I mean God knows everything. I sometimes wonder about some people ever having a thought in their entire life and God’s thoughts outnumber the gains of sand. The more I know about God the less I know about God. The more I try to understand God the more I realize there is a whole lot more to know about God. But this much I know…God loves us, God knows all about us and He loves us anyway. And God is powerful enough to take care of any situation in our life if we will just turn our problems and our life over to Him.

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting,” (v.23-24). When we reflect on the Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent God, as we have during the month of April, we begin to understand the greatness of God and how well He understands us. God understands our weaknesses and our sinfulness and yet He loves us anyway. Though we often fail God He is still willing to take a repentant sinner and lead us “in the way everlasting.” As David, a man after God’s own heart, cried before God for God to search his innermost being, should we not do the same? Should we not take time each day to bring ourselves before God, be absolutely honest before God, and ask God’s Holy Spirit to examine us and reveal to us our faults and failures and lead us to repentance and confession before God? After all God already knows these things so should we not be interested in knowing these things as well so that God can truly “lead us in the way everlasting?” As we continue on our journey through life with God may we never forget how great a God we have and serve.
