THE OMNIPOTENCE OF GOD: YOU! Think of God’s power in relationship to the creation of life…human births, if you will. Mankind tries to tinker with what God created perfectly and he messes things up, as we all see on and in the news almost every day. But man in his efforts still hasn’t figured out how to create life out of nothing or better yet…take dust and make life or take a rib and make life. Only God can do that. The best man can do is try to manipulate genes & destroy embryos.
So think about these first occasions when God demonstrated His Omnipotent power in creating life. First there was Adam, who was formed out of the dust of the ground according to Genesis 2:7 and God breathed life into him. Then, according to Genesis 2:21-22, God took one of Adam’s ribs and made a woman. And life on planet earth has not been the same since. Then there was the miraculous birth of Isaac. You remember the story in Genesis 17 when God came to Abraham at the age of 99 & Sarah was 89. Sarah had never been able to have children. Remember Abraham & Sarah devised their own plan to have a baby and used Hagar as a concubine. From that plan came Ishmael, who became the Father of all the tribes in the Middle East who are causing the Jewish people trouble today. God told Abraham, in my paraphrase, “You have been going to the wrong fertility clinic. Let me show you how this is done.” And at the age of 90 Sarah gave birth to Isaac, who is the son through whom the Jewish promises have come. God, in His Omnipotent power has no trouble performing a miracle when it is required to fulfill His plans and not ours. Man in his weakness messes things up really good. But God in His omnipotent power can do wonderful things.
Then there was another couple well along in years and not able to have children. And God performed another fertility miracle and John the Baptist was born to Elizabeth & Zechariah. God used John to announce the arrival of Jesus the Messiah. And then there was Jesus, the greatest miracle child of all. God in His omnipotent power brought life to the womb of a virgin and the God-Man was born…the Savior of the World. And then there is each one of us…you and me. David describes the wonderful event of his human birth and by way of extension every human birth, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be,” (Psalm 139:13-16 NIV). The conception and birth of a human being is a wonderful thing and God is involved in the process from the beginning of life at conception to the end of life at death and beyond. What great power our glorious God has. There is more to come on the Omnipotence of God in our Reflection tomorrow. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
