THE OMNIPOTENCE OF GOD!
THE OMNIPOTENCE OF GOD! What a glorious powerful God we love and serve. What do we mean by the term the OMNIPOTENCE of God? The word “Omnipotence” comes from two Latin words: “omnis” meaning “all” and “potens” meaning “power”. So “Omnipotence means “all powerful” or “unlimited in power.” The word “Omnipotence” is identical to our English word “almighty” and the word “almighty” occurs 56 times in the King James Version of the Bible and is never used of anyone but God. God can do anything He wants to do that is consistent with His own nature. God has limited Himself in two areas. God will not do anything that is contrary to His nature. So don’t bother asking God to do anything that is inconsistent with His nature. For instance God cannot lie or be tempted to sin or other things inconsistent with His nature. The Bible plainly states this. God also has self-imposed limitations. There are things God could have chosen to do but God chose not to do so. For instance He did not choose to spare Jesus from dying on the cross. And in the Old Testament times He chose Jacob instead of Esau. So let us reflect on the Omnipotence of God for a few days and see what the Bible teaches us about God and our relationship to Him. It is easier to see the Omnipotence of God at work than it is to describe it. So for a few days let us look on some demonstrations of God’s power.
First things first; let us start where the bible starts and see how all powerful our God is. The bible begins, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” (Genesis 1:1 NIV). In Psalm 33:9 NIV it says, “For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.” If you want to see the unlimited power of God just take a look around you. The whole universe is a demonstration of His power. Who has power like God? God speaks and a whole universe is created. Man is still trying to figure out how to live on the moon or on any other planets in the universe safely for an extended period of time. How puny we are compared to God.
It is interesting how Satan works to get people focused on the creation more than the creator. People argue about how long the heavens and the earth have been here rather than concentrating on the source of creation…God. Satan blinds the eyes of people to get them to worship the creation rather the creator. Evolutionists and “big bang” theorists abound in multitudes of places and in multitudes of theories while in their “wisdom” they miss the most simple and accurate explanation. “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse,” (Romans 1:20 NIV). Yes, God is an omnipotent, all powerful God, who by His word is able to do more than mankind could ever ask or think or more than man can do with all his inventive “genius.” Let us praise and worship Him today. There is more to come on this topic as we reflect on our all-powerful God and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
