MAN-MADE DANGERS TO AVOID IN THE STUDY OF GOD'S OMNIPRESENCE CONTINUED!

April 10, 2020

MAN-MADE DANGERS TO AVOID IN THE STUDY OF GOD’S OMNIPRESENCE CONTINUED! The second greatest fallacy of human reasoning regarding the reflection on God’s Omnipresence as found in Psalm 139:7-12 is what is called Deism or Unitarianism. Part of an article from the website Religioustolerence.org gives this information on “Deism”. “The word "Deism" is derived from the Latin word for God: "Deus." Deism is a natural religion. Deists believe in the existence of God, on purely rational grounds, without any reliance on revealed religion or religious authority. Many Deists reason that since everything that exists has had a creator, then the universe itself must have been created by God… Most Deists believe that God created the universe, "wound it up" and then disassociated himself from his creation. Some refer to Deists as believing in a God who acts as an absentee landlord.”  So God has little involvement in our lives according to the Deists or Unitarians.

You may say, “Who believes that way?”  The answer is: politicians, scientists, movie stars, architects, educators and a lot of other people. If you go online you can find website after website dedicated to this philosophy or religion and they list the famous people involved in this line of thought. TV & radio are full of this view but it is hidden in the way it is presented. One of the now deceased people who believed this way was “Super Man”, Christopher Reeves. If we follow this line of thought we may be led to believe that God (however you view him) may have created the universe, now has no interest in it and leaves us to live life as we please.

Unitarians have a wide range of beliefs but they are very close to the belief of the Deists and many of them also draw their beliefs from all the major religions of the world. Jesus to them had moral authority in His teaching but they don’t believe that Jesus claimed to be God nor do they think that Jesus taught about the existence of a triune God. Unitarians oppose the Trinitarian teaching of orthodox Christianity. It appears they are more interested in inspiration and self-actualization than in a personal knowledge of God as revealed in the Word of God and in His Son the Lord Jesus Christ who claimed to be God. In Revelation Jesus said, “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades,” (Revelation 1:17-18 NIV). It is clear from God’s Word that God is more than an absent landlord or an inspirational Thought. In tomorrow’s Reflection we will take time to reflect on the fallacy of Atheism. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
