The Omnipresence of God: What do we mean by the “Omnipresence” of God? Our reflections on this topic will be based on Psalm 139:7-12 so be sure and read this passage of Scripture today or at least before tomorrow. It would be good to read the entire Psalm. The word “omnipresence” comes from two Latin words: “omnis” meaning “all” and “praesen” meaning “to be at hand or present.” So the “omnipresence of God” means that He is always at hand or present. Charles Ryrie in his book on “Basic Theology” says, “Omnipresence means that God is everywhere present with His whole being at all times.” When we view heaven and earth, the great universe we see and beyond, God is there. There is no place where we can escape the presence of God.
As we begin to reflect on this great truth about God we will see what a great blessing this knowledge about God will become to us. But first I think it is wise to look at some manmade dangers to avoid. Man, using his “great” reasoning powers, has come up with his own thoughts about God and where God is and what God has done. Instead of relying on God’s revealed revelation about Himself in the Bible, the Word of God, certain men have chosen to decide truths about God on their own. They have cast aside the Bible as unreliable and full of mistakes and instead have decided to let their own human reasoning decide the “real” truth about God. And often these truths are veiled in the guise of science. There are three basic fallacies of human reasoning we must avoid if we are to know God in the way He intended us to know Him,
God reminds us, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Avoid godless chatter because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly,” (2 Timothy 2:15-16 NIV). So as we begin our reflection on the Omnipresence of God tomorrow we want to discuss and be alert to three basic dangerous fallacies of human reasoning (godless chatter) in this area concerning God.("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
