The Omniscience of God: God knows all our needs. David said, “You (God) hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me,” (Psalm 139:5 NIV). “You hem me in” is translated in the NASB as “you enclose me.” The KJV says, “You beset me behind and before.” All these translations really bring out the thought of being surrounded by God or protected by God. As we will see later in in our reflection of this Psalm God knows our end from the beginning. God has a great plan for our life. And so God in His infinite knowledge of us now and into the future protects us.
We do not know what tomorrow will bring. Jesus and the Apostles also told us that. But God knows what tomorrow will bring. He knows what will be in our life before it ever arrives. And God knowing what is coming in our life and knowing what our needs will be then God plans for the day and puts His care and protection on us. God “hems” us in. God “encloses” us. God is in front of us and behind us. God is never caught by surprise because He knows everything…even before it happens.
When there is a downturn in the economy or a job loss this is no surprise to God. And no matter how bad things may get economically for us God will take care of His people. When we go through ill health or things like a coronavirus pandemic or any other kind of problem that is no surprise to God. God will take care of us during those times. God knows our needs and God will surround and protect us during those times of need. We can live openly and honestly before God. We can pray openly and honestly before God because He already knows us intimately and He knows our needs before we even ask. We do not have to put on “airs” with God. We do not have to put on a face that everything is “OK” when it isn’t. God already knows our need and has already planned for it. And God loves us enough that He gave us His Son to save us so we know His concern for our needs is real. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
