THE OMNISCIENCE OF GOD: GOD KNOWS OUR HEART AND OUR THOUGHTS!
The Omniscience of God: God Knows Our Heart and Our Thoughts. “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar” (Psalm 139:1-2 NIV). The first thing David reveals to us is that God examines us. God knows our heart and He knows our thoughts. The word “searched” here means to “pierce through” or “to search as for treasure.” The NASB note on this says that it is “Used of the careful scrutiny involved in mining operations (cf. Job28:3) and in exploring a country (cf. Judges 18:2).” God knows everything about us. When God gets through searching us He has done a thorough job. There is nothing in our heart that has not been revealed to Him. We do not have a thought that God does not know.
When we go to Church on Sunday morning or at other times the Preacher may know a little about us BUT God knows everything about us. Our co-workers may know a little about us or a lot about us depending on what they see and we share. God knows all about us. It is foolish of any of us to try and hide things from God. God has already mined our hearts and our minds. He knows what is there. He knows whether He has found gold or coal. He knows whether we are a jewel or a cesspool. And we know those things as well.
So let us realize that God knows everything about us. We can be honest with God because God already knows who we are down deep inside. God knows where we hurt and God knows what our needs are. God is able to help us because God already knows us. And if our hearts and thoughts are dirty God is able to change that through our reliance on the blood of His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. Always be honest with God because He knows us through and through. One thing that will help us in this area of Heart & Mind is this, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:1-2 NIV). We will reflect more on the Omniscience of God tomorrow. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
