THE MAGNIFICENT REASON FOR OUR HOPE OF GLORY! “Christ in you, the hope of glory,” (Colossians 1:27). The reason that we have the hope of Glory is that Jesus Christ dwells in us. Jesus is omnipresent since He is God. He is everywhere. But Jesus is also seated at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. And guess what? Jesus also lives in us. Does that blow your mind? The God of glory lives in us Christians. The very thought of that should just blow us away. After His resurrection, Jesus said in Matthew 28:20, “I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” In John 14:18 when Jesus was preparing to be nailed to the cross He told the disciples, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” In John 14:20 He said, “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”
Bodily Jesus is in heaven seated at the right hand of God the Father but He is also living in each individual believer and in the Church as an entity. WOW! That is hard to understand BUT it doesn’t make it any less real. By faith we have a living hope that the indwelling Christ will eventually take us to heaven to share in His glory. Salvation is not dependent on us. Glory is not dependent on us. All we will ever experience in the blessings God gives us is because of what God has done. Jesus will come to live within us if we ask Him to. Salvation is not dependent on feeling. Salvation is not dependent on our good works. Salvation for each of us is dependent on our acceptance of what Jesus has already done on our behalf.
Let me close these reflections on “Christ in you, the hope of glory” with this story. I don’t know where I got it or who wrote it but it does stress an important point. A truck driver was hired to deliver a group of penguins to the zoo. On his way to the zoo his truck broke down. He didn’t know how long it would take to fix the truck and he was worried about the health of the penguins. So he called a fellow trucker and paid him $500 to take the penguins to the zoo. It took until the next day for the trucker to get his truck fixed. As he was headed to the zoo to check on the penguins he stopped at a traffic light and what does he see but the trucker he hired crossing the road in front of him with columns of penguins following behind. He jumped out of the truck and demanded to know what was going on. After all he hired the guy to take the penguins to the zoo. The other trucker replied, “I did take them to the zoo. We had money left over so today I’m taking them to the movies.” Silly? Yes, but here is my point:
Sometimes our communication is unclear. But let us be clear on the way to salvation and glory as the Word of God states it. The bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23 NIV). The bible says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord,” (Romans 6:23 NIV). The bible says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,” (Romans 10:13 NIV). The bible says, “if you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved,” (Romans 10:9-10 NIV). ("Daily Reflections On God's Word"
