THE SPIRITUAL NATURE OF A LIVING HOPE!

THE SPIRITUAL NATURE OF A LIVING HOPE! “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time,” (1 Peter 1:3-5 NIV).

Living Hope is not man-made. It is not the positive thinking hope of Robert Schuler or those who follow him in this tradition. Living Hope does not come out of a best -selling book of modern man. Living Hope is a Hope as old as God and the best seller is as old as the bible. Living Hope is spiritual in nature so we can depend on its truths and its success. As noted in the bible verses above The Living Hope comes from a Living God who has a Living Son who is the Living Truth. Our Living Hope comes from the architect and sustainer of the universe. It is in Him we live and move and have our being. Our Living Hope is not dependent on the U.S. government or the UN. Our Living Hope is not something we have because of the Declaration of Independence or the U.S. Constitution. Our Living Hope existed before all those things. We do not get our hope out of funding for Social Security or Medicare and we are not dependent on great oration from the President or members of Congress. Our Living Hope is a spiritual Hope founded in God the Father.

Our Living Hope comes from God’s great gift of mercy. The bible says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” All we deserve is death and hell. Unsaved man’s thoughts and actions are sinful all day long, 365 days a year with one added in leap year. Without Christ living in us even our best thoughts and actions are a stench in God’s nostrils. But 2 Peter 3:9 says, “He (God) is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” God in His great mercy allows us to repent of our sins and accept His great salvation offered in Jesus Christ. And when we repent God gives us The Living Hope, the gift of eternal life. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
