GENERATION Z IS IN TROUBLE! What’s wrong with Generation Z? “Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction,” (Proverbs 29:18 NIV). The King James Version says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” The word “revelation” or “vision” is also translated in other versions as “prophecy” which carries the idea of a prophet preaching God’s Word. I think we could say in simplicity that when there is no preaching of God’s Word by God’s messengers or when there is no consistent distribution of the Word of God among the people that surround us then several things are going to happen. When the Word of God is not proclaimed publicly and/or privately in society then people lose the vision of God, His work in their lives, and His vision for the world now and for the future. And here is a root of Generation Z’s troubles.
As the Apostle Paul said, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (Romans 10:14 NIV). In American society today Satan is working to shut down the preaching of the Word of God. Just recently the Atheists were suing the government to stop people in the White House from holding a bible study there. Satan understands that without the preaching and teaching of the Word of God that his (Satan’s) work will be easier. God’s people need to understand that as well and we need to be counted as part of the solution and not part of the problem. God’s people need to proclaim God’s Word and disseminate God’s Word to the maximum and combine their proclamation with Godly living. And failure here is another root of Generation Z’s troubles.
When Christian’s fail at this task of proclamation, dissemination, AND Godly living tragic results follow and “people cast off restraint” and this leads to their destruction in many ways in this life and spiritually for eternity. We are living in a generation where Proverbs 29:18 is truly a reality. The Christian Post reported that a leading evangelical polling firm states that a survey revealed that teenagers today are the most non-Christian generation in American history. Only four out of a hundred teens hold a true biblical worldview and one out of every eight teens identifies as non-heterosexual. Thirty-five percent of Generation Z considered themselves to be atheist, agnostic, or not affiliated with any religion. I don’t believe these young people (Generation Z) arrived in that condition by themselves. I think the failure of parents and even the failures of the Church have helped to produce this crisis. As Christians we need to get on our knees to pray and then we need to get on our feet and live out our lives in a Godly way while we also proclaim God’s message loud and clear. What are you going to do where you live in this battle for the souls of those in Generation Z and even the souls of their parents? They are in trouble!
