CAN A GPS BE WRONG? As one who has ended up in some strange locations by following the directions on my cell phone I can tell you that GPS directions can be wrong. And I get the same reports from other individuals and also posts on the web. When someone followed me the other day in their car to a place where we were going and we arrived at our destination the first thing they said was, “That’s not the way my phone said.” You know and I know that the GPS will not always take you the best way or the right way to where you are going. Life is like that as well.
About three thousand years ago the writer of Proverbs noted, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death,” (Proverbs 14:12 NIV). That is still true today. Followers of the GPS system have ended up in some locations that have caused their deaths. We live in a society where everyone seems to “do what is right in their own eyes” and that very often ends in physical death for many people. “Do your own thing,” is glorified and often demanded in our society but internal GPS’ problems that lead down the wrong paths can cause disaster for the individual and those around them. The cry for society to impose no moral restraints on anyone is leading down a path of societal destruction. Sexual immorality that used to be easily defined is now looked upon as normal. Abnormal behavior by individuals that often brings destruction on other people is often excused by society based on the opinions of “experts” and such behavior goes unpunished. Language that is vulgar and degrading is regarded as “pop culture” and considered normal. Is it any wonder then that as humans have their internal GPS systems installed by God replaced by the GPS systems of the world and the devil that people end up on the wrong path in life?
It should not be surprising that God’s pathway in life as laid out from the beginning of time has been corrupted and now people follow, “a way that appears to be right, but in the end leads to death.” When society thinks there are many pathways to God and in fact every “religion” is OK and leads to the same final destination common sense and God’s Word tells you someone is wrong. Jesus said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it,” (Matthew 7:13-14 NIV). Yes, there is a way that appears to be right to many people but they are wrong and the way leads to spiritual death and very often physical death as well. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” (John 14:6 NIV). Many people whom we love and are good people by the world’s standards are on the wrong path in life and will miss the opportunity to enjoy a relationship to God through Jesus the Son unless we share the true road map with them. Be sure you are also on the right road. ("Daily Reflections On God's Word" Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
