RIGHTEOUSNESS VS SINFULNESS!
RIGHTEOUSNESS VS SINFULNESS! The book of Proverbs is a book of contrasts in many ways and very often in just a few words reveals great truths that are not only true but also strike to the core of life. In Proverbs chapter eleven great contrasts are drawn between righteousness and wickedness. For greatest impact you need to read the entire chapter but here I just want to point out how God views some of the results for being righteous. Often Christians wonder why they should bother trying to live a godly life in an ungodly world where it seems the unsaved are actually doing “better” than they are. But we need to remember to view the world through God’s eyes not the eyes of those in the world. Here, as recorded in the NIV Bible are just a few ways the Christians’ righteousness impacts themselves and others as stated in Proverbs chapter 11.
The integrity of the upright guides them –v.3; Righteousness delivers from death – v.4; The righteousness of the blameless makes their paths straight and delivers them – v.5-6; The righteous and knowledgeable person is rescued from trouble and escapes – v.8-9; When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices –v.10; Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted – v.11; The one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward – v.18; Truly the righteous attain life –v.19; He (God) delights in those whose ways are blameless – v.20; Those who are righteous will go free – v.21; The desire of the righteous ends only in good – v.23; The righteous will thrive like a green leaf – v.28; The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life – v.30; The righteous receive their due on earth – v.31.
Since these are contrasts with those of wickedness you can imagine what God says about the wicked or you can just read those verses and see for yourself. My point is that God does reward righteousness and righteous people are also a blessing to those around them. The final outcome of a righteous life of course is eternity in the presence of Jesus. Christians know that our ultimate standing of righteousness before God is granted to us through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross to pay for our sins. No amount of good works can save us; only Jesus can save us. But God equips us to live a life of righteousness on earth through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit and He rewards us in this present life and for all eternity by doing so. As you live out this day in your earthly life commit to being a righteous person before God and in doing so bring blessings on yourself and on others.
