WHAT ARE YOU TRUSTING IN?
WHAT ARE YOU TRUSTING IN? That is an important question and yet people give it very little thought. Most people just seem to get up and go about “doing life” without giving it much thought. Maybe that is because by the time we really start to think about life our families, educational system, and culture have so impacted us that we just go about “doing life.” So it should not surprise us that for the most part Americans are impacted more by secularism than they are by biblical teachings. But God would remind us that education, the government, science, employment, people and all the other things we could name in this world will not provide for us the final answer to where we should place our trust. A wise man by the name of Solomon recorded these words from God for us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,” (Proverbs 3:5 NIV).
As a guy that is “older than dirt” according to my young friends (who are still wet behind their ears) I can tell you if you trust in anything “with all your heart” but the Lord you are in for big disappointments in life. Education, government, science, employment, people and everything else in life will fail you at some point in life BUT God will never fail you. And if you think you can be self-sufficient and just rely on yourself you should remind yourself that God said, “lean not on your own understanding;” you will fail yourself and be sadly disappointed.
God’s answer to the trust issue in life is this: “In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight,” (Proverbs 3:6 NIV). Trust involves action. If you truly trust in God with all your being then your life actions will demonstrate it and God will guide you through life successfully. Submission to God in life is difficult for most Americans, because most of us have been taught to “stand on our own two feet.” In other words, make your own decisions, provide for yourself, and depend on no one else. And for many Americans they have been taught to rely on the government and not God. But the real issue for each of us is, “What are you really trusting in?” Is it self, government, God, or something else? I don’t know about you but I long ago decided to put my trust in God, submit to Him, and let Him guide me through life. I have never been disappointed by God.
