A YEAR OF HOPE. There it is…the year is stretched out before us with all its challenges and aspirations. Some have made New Year resolutions and bucket lists. Others have begun to realize that unless something changes this year will look a lot like last year and that may be good or bad depending on how last year went. But one thing is sure. Unforeseen things will happen for better or for worse. We cannot control all facets of life. But as Christians we should enter this New Year with hope and trust in God. As King David said, “In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause,” (Psalm 25:1-3 NIV)..
The year will probably bring its usual and unusual circumstances into our lives to cause us much joy and maybe much grief. The world, the flesh, and the devil are still with us and will present us with constant challenges and opportunities to shine or crash in flames. But God is with us and will never forsake us and He will be our cheerleader and our guide through this year. As David said in Psalm 25, “Show me your ways Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old,” (Psalm 25:4-6 NIV).
Three thousand years ago David saw the need of God controlling His life and teaching him His truth. David also knew that his hope must be in God all day long and not just in special circumstances. Sometimes we forget that truth and begin to rely on OUR abilities, resources, and independence and that is when we get in trouble. In this year let us throughout the day lift our prayers to God and ask, “Show me your ways Lord, teach me your paths.” Satan and the world are very good at making the wrong things seem right and the right things seem wrong. But the Holy Spirit living in us can show us God’s ways and teach us His paths. This year for Christians should be a year of HOPE in a world that appears to be very often without hope. But God is a God of HOPE and He has placed us here at this time in history to share His HOPE to those living around us.("Daily Reflections On God's Word," Volume 1 by Dr. Chuck Davis).
