WHY DID JESUS COME? Sometimes when the Pastor shows up at a person’s door unexpectedly their immediate question is, “Why are you here?” Many people ask that same question concerning Jesus and many never figure out why Jesus came to planet earth. That’s a shame because the Apostle Paul answered that question quite clearly. Paul said, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners,” (1 Timothy 1:15 NIV). Even though the answer is clear many people still don’t get it. Often people don’t consider themselves sinners. Sometimes people just don’t understand exactly who Jesus is. Others think they are not lost so they don’t need to be found (saved). Others are just spiritually ignorant. And some think they are just too bad to be saved. But the Apostle said he was “the worst” of sinners and God saved him. And God can save anyone who comes to Him desiring to be saved.

WHY DID JESUS COME? Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full,” (John 10:10 NIV). When Jesus appeared in the manger at Bethlehem He had a purpose in life and that purpose was to save sinners and give each redeemed sinner a full and complete life in the present and for eternity. As Jesus walked the earth He brought joy to all those around Him who were captive to sin and came to Him desiring to be free. He set them free by changing their lives. The lame could walk again or maybe for the first time. The blind could now see. The deaf could now hear. The dead were resurrected. And those living a life of sin were forgiven and given a new way to live. Jesus still does that today letting forgiven sinners have a new lease on life and learning to live life to the full.

WHY DID JESUS COME? The baby of Bethlehem came to provide for us a future home. That’s different isn’t it? We usually are planning and preparing things of the future for the new born baby. But with Jesus it is just the opposite. Jesus said, “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am,” (John 14:2-3 NIV). God the Father is always working for our benefit and His Son does the same. Just as Jesus’ life on earth was short so our time on earth is short as well in relation to eternity. As God’s children we should be thankful for His provision for our eternal welfare through the life, death and resurrection of His Son.
