PEACE? The President of the United States made a decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the United States embassy to Jerusalem. Immediately Israel’s neighbors and the surrounding countries in the Middle East and indeed around the world have threatened violence against Israel and U.S. armed forces. Palestinian terrorist groups have threatened retaliation against Israel. Peace, peace, where is peace? There really hasn’t been much peace in this world in my lifetime.
But 2000 years ago God gave renewed hope of peace to the existing world of that time and His promise of peace still holds. “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us: And the government will rest on His shoulders. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace,” (Isaiah 9:6 NIV). But in a short period of time the peace was broken when the human King of that time tried to kill the Prince of Peace by slaughtering all the babies born within a two year time period in the Bethlehem area. Satan has continued his quest of destroying peace on earth and the people of the Prince of Peace until this very day. So violence in the Middle East is not new and will continue until the Prince of Peace makes a return trip to planet earth to rescue His people.
But lest we lose hope and think all is despair let us remember what the Prince of Peace promised just before His return to heaven from His first journey. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid,” (John 14:27 NIV). Peace treaties will be made and broken in this world until Jesus returns. Politicians of every country on earth will cause turmoil and rob people of peace until the Prince of Peace finally imposes His will on the entire world. But God’s people should not despair because it is possible for us to live in prefect peace in an imperfect world. The Prince of Peace, born in a manger, ministered to by angels, honored by God the Father, filled with the Spirit of God, indeed God in the flesh, has promised us peace in the midst of any circumstance in life. He gives His peace to us and has instructed us to not let our hearts be troubled or be afraid. The key is putting our total trust in the Prince of Peace and relying of His promise and His strength in any circumstance of life. The events of the world may swirl around us but we need to remember God is in total control and every prophecy and every promise of the Bible will be fulfilled.
So this Christmas season no matter the events of the world let us pause and remember the birth of the Prince of Peace and let us be filled with His peace in spite of the news headlines and the doomsday naysayers because we know the Prince of Peace is in ultimate control and we can experience His peace NOW. Let us also be people of peace and let us share the message of the Prince of Peace because during this season the people around us need the Prince of Peace to give them peace also.
