SIN, WHAT SIN? (Continued from yesterday). Dr. Charles Ryrie, after tracing the biblical concept of sin in both the Old and New Testaments came to this conclusion: “Sin may properly be defined by using all these descriptive words as recorded in the Old and New Testaments. Such a definition would be accurate though quite lengthy. Indeed, it might be a good idea to define it thus: sin is missing the mark, badness, rebellion, iniquity, going astray, wickedness, wandering, ungodliness, crime, lawlessness, transgression, ignorance, and falling away,”  (Basic Theology, p.243 by Charles Ryrie). Or as Billy Graham said, it is “any thought or action that falls short of God’s will.” Sin involves not just wrongful actions but also a wrongful condition of the heart and a failure to do what is right (Romans 3:3,10-12; James 4:17) and it is God’s judgment that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23).

SIN. Yes, we human beings have plenty of sin to account to before God. We can try and reason it away, explain it away, deny it, try to ignore the results of it or set our own standards but in the long run God says we are guilty of sin and the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), physical & spiritual, resulting in separation from God for eternity in a place called hell. The GOOD NEWS is that God loves us more than we love ourselves and He has not only set the standard He requires of us but He also has prepared a remedy for our failures to abide by that standard. The remedy is this, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness,”(1 John 1:9). Jesus has already paid our penalty for sin on the cross and when we agree with God (confess) our failures of sinning and accept the work of Jesus on our behalf we can find forgiveness from God and the gift of eternal life (Romans 6:23).God is waiting. Are you ready to talk with Him?
