When we number all the educational institutions in the world today one would think we would be the most educated and wisest generation to ever live on planet earth. But the state of the nations around the world and the morality of most of the human race leads me to believe otherwise. We can send a person into space and return them safely home again. But we can’t keep a baby, made in God’s image, safe in the womb for nine months if society says the mother can kill them. Is real wisdom lacking in this over educated and morally deficient world? I believe so. James stated God’s opinion this way: “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice,” (James 3:13-16 NIV).
Surely the “wisdom” of our world today fits the latter description of “earthly, unspiritual, demonic. ”How else could you describe the state of things around the world and most of the world leaders we have today? Satan has certainly blinded the minds of people who don’t know Christ and he has fooled many people who do profess Christ as Savior. As people have fallen for the wisdom of this world and harbor within themselves “bitter envy and selfish ambition” morality has taken a downward spiral and “demonic wisdom” has replaced the wisdom God offers. The world’s wisdom mocks a Vice-President who honors his wife and they in turn adore media personalities who provide “fake news” and promote godless LGTBQ life styles. That stands for Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual and Queer in case you did not know. Yes, the anti-heaven “wisdom” is alive and well in this “educated society.” And God’s judgment is at the door. But James has more to say.
“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness,” (James 3:17 NIV). What a contrast in what God offers and what Satan offers. God offers a wisdom of righteousness that leads to heaven but the world and Satan offer “demonic wisdom” that leads to “envy, strife, disorder, and evil” and eventually to hell. The choices between what God offers and what man and Satan offers could not be clearer. God offers wisdom that is pure and produces peace, consideration of others, submission to God and His appointed leaders, and a life of mercy, good fruit, impartiality and sincerity. Christians need to open their mind and heart to God’s Word and begin to seek and follow His wisdom while evaluating the wisdom of the world with God’s standards for wisdom that brings peace and not the standards of a supposedly educated society that is living in chaos. To pursue intelligence without God’s wisdom is a fool’s journey with a pre-determined destination.
