WE ARE GOING TO DIE!

November 2, 2019

WE ARE GOING TO DIE! God’s Word says, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation,” (Hebrews 9:27-28 NKJV). Are there any exceptions to physical death? Well, Enoch & Elijah as recorded in the Old Testament Scriptures escaped in dramatic ways. And the Christians alive at the Rapture will escape physical death. They will be taken up to heaven alive in a very dramatic event. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Will we be part of that event? Hopefully, but if not we are going to die physically. And God knows our date with death whether we do or not. Psalm 139:16 says, “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (NIV). God knew when we would be born and when we would die before we were born.

But God also says that with death comes judgment. Every person will face God’s judgment. For the non-Christian the judgment will be on the basis of their rejection of Jesus Christ as their Savior because Jesus came to die for their sins (Hebrews 9:27). These people will hear the words of Jesus, “Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers,” (Matthew 7:23 NIV). There will be judgment as well for those who accept Christ as Savior. Rejection of Christ equals a judgment of condemnation and separation from God for eternity. But acceptance of Christ as Savior means the Christian will face a different judgment experience from God. This judgment is described in 2 Corinthians 5:10, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the  body, whether good or bad,” (NIV).  This judgment is not for condemnation but is for granting of rewards for a life spent worshipping and serving Christ. To me it is a no brainer. Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life,” (John 5:24 NIV).

Another exciting aspect of these verses is that Christ came ONCE to bear the sins of the world in His death on the cross. When He comes again He is coming to finalize our salvation before the world and take us to be with Him. He will not return to make another payment for sin. That payment has been made and is final and complete. When He returns He will come to pour out judgment on the world and complete His program for mankind. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords will rule and reign. We do not know the day of our death. We do not know the date of the rapture of the church, the body of Christ, but we who love Jesus “eagerly await for Him to appear a second time.” It could be today. And friend we don’t want you to be in the wrong judgment line on that appointed day. Today is the day of salvation. It may be the only day you have.
