SALVATION! Something to think about today. Our GOD, our heavenly Father, is kind and loving, and generous and in spite of our failures shows mercy and grace to us in many ways including our salvation. The Apostle Paul says, “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy,” (Titus 3:4-5a NIV). Salvation is all God’s work. There is nothing we could do to deserve it. Paul goes on to say, “He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, (Titus 3:5b-6 NIV). As Jesus said, “You must be born again,” and that work of regeneration comes through the work of God the Holy Spirit in all His fullness. All our works were as filthy rags up to that point but by God’s redeeming power we were made new again spiritually by the Holy Spirit’s power. Sins are forgiven. There is new life in a dead person.
And Paul finishes this powerful passage by saying this, “so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life,” (Titus 3:7 NIV). We are declared righteous before God because of the work Jesus, our Savior, did on the cross in paying for our sins. Through that great sacrifice God’s mercy, grace, love, salvation, new birth, hope, and eternal life have come. And we are now heirs with Christ Jesus. All that is His now is ours and as we grow as God’s children that thought will become more and more real to us. Ponder on that today. Think about it. And stand amazed that God would do all this for YOU and for all who trust in His son the Lord Jesus.
