ANXIETY! IS IT MIND OVER MATTER?

September 24, 2019

ANXIETY! IS IT MIND OVER MATTER?  Many would say so. But for the Christian God has a different solution. He usually does. The Apostle Paul reminded the Christians in the Church at Philippi concerning anxiety, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God, and the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV). Here is our needed prescription from God concerning our anxious thoughts and ways. We need to remember that God is near to us at all times. "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near," (Philippians 4:4-5 NIV). That means that God is aware of all the things that so often cause us anxiety. Rejoice that God is with you and He cares for you. And rest in Him.

The antidote to anxiety is prayer. And God's Word says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." It is easy to fret, stew, doubt, and let our thoughts go wild about things and situations that often cause anxiety. But God's answer is to come into His presence and let Him know what is on our heart and mind and lift up our needs and concerns before Him while seeking His answer. And do it with thanksgiving not bitterness of soul. After all we are seeking God's will and God's answer not our own. The ultimate answer from God is PEACE not anxiety when we follow God's prescription to cure anxiety. As Paul states, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Yes we are all human and beset by human emotions and frailties but God knows that and has provided His Word and His Holy Spirit to help us during these times. Rest, pray and trust in God.
