Proud American! Yes, I am proud to be an American! As a young man I served my country for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. I thank God for allowing me to be born and raised in this country. American citizenship brings great privileges, opportunities, and responsibilities. But I have an even greater citizenship that brings even greater privileges, opportunities, and responsibilities. That citizenship is as a citizen of God's Kingdom in heaven where some people from every country on earth will one day gather. As the Apostle Paul said, "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ," (Philippians 3:20 NIV). As much as I love the U.S.A., with all its good and in spite of all its bad, I love God's Kingdom more. His Kingdom takes priority in every area of my life as it should with every heavenly citizen. The U.S. Is temporal just like our life on earth is temporal. The heavenly Kingdom is eternal. It is a "no brainer" as to which should have priority. That doesn't mean we don't have responsibilities to both. While many look for just the right political savior for the U.S. I, along with a host of God's people, am looking for the sudden appearing of our heavenly Savior the Lord Jesus Christ. Which citizenship takes your priority today? Are you eagerly awaiting Jesus' sudden appearance? Are you as ready to serve God as you are to serve your earthly country?
